TERMS & CONDITIONS

The terms and conditions stated below are split into three sections. There are:

  1. Workshop Terms and Conditions, for multi-day natural dye workshops;
  2. Artist Residency Terms and Conditions, for multi-day use of the natural dye studio;
  3. Batik Class Terms and Conditions, for half-day natural dye batik classes.

1. WORKSHOP TERMS AND CONDITIONS

INCLUDED FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS:
Workshop program, lunches, and scheduled local transportation, as stated on the “Workshop” tab of the event’s webpage.

INCLUDED FOR RESIDENTIAL PARTICIPANTS:
Twin-share accommodations as stated on the “Workshop” tab of the event’s webpage, breakfasts.

Note: twin share rooms may be made up with a king size bed for couples; single room supplements available on request; shared accommodations for a participant’s partner available on request.

INCLUDED FOR NON-RESIDENTIAL PARTICIPANTS:
Morning and afternoon shuttle transfers between accommodations in central Ubud and the workshop venue are included in the workshop. The shuttle route will be along Raya Ubud Road, Hanoman Road, Monkey Forest Road, and Suweta Road and participants will be notified before the workshop what time and where their morning pick-up will be.

PRICES
Workshop prices are listed in United States dollars.

PAYMENT BY CREDIT CARD
Payment may be made by credit card via a secure automatic link from the booking website to the credit card processing site of Maybank Indonesia. As banks in Indonesia only process transactions in Indonesian rupiah, the United States dollar value of the workshop will be automatically converted to Indonesian rupiah at the prevailing rate before the payment is processed.

PAYMENT BY PAYPAL
Payment may be made via PayPal by credit card or debit card without a PayPal account, or from you PayPal account balance. Payment via PayPal will be charged in US dollars.

PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER
Payment can also be made directly:

Complete the registration process and chose Bank transfer as your payment method.
We will then put your place on hold so that it does not get rebooked.
You will receive an email with the bank transfer instructions. Please then make the bank transfer within 5 working days, ensuring all bank fees are paid by you.
Email an image of the transfer receipt to tour@threadsoflife.com. If we do not receive either the bank transfer or an email of the transfer receipt within 5 working days, we will cancel your booking.
When we receive payment, we will confirm your place in the workshop.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is required for all participants. The insurance must cover the loss, expenses and damages arising from, including but not limited to, the cancellation of the workshop (whether in whole or in part), cancellation of participation in the workshop due to personal accident and injury or bereavement or loss of job, personal accident and injury and personal liability during travel, medical and repatriation costs (an emergency air medical evacuation to Singapore can cost upwards of USD 30,000 and medical care facilities in Indonesia are significantly different from the West and medical evacuation is extremely expensive), loss of baggage and personal money and belongings and flight cancellations and delays.

FORCE MAJEURE
We regret we cannot accept liability or pay any compensation where the performance or prompt performance of our contractual obligations is prevented or affected by reason of circumstances amounting to “force majeure”. Circumstances amounting to “force majeure” include any event which Threads of Life and workshop leader(s) could not even with all due care, foresee or forestall such as (by way of example and not by way of limitation) acts of God, terrorist activities, insurrection, explosion, flood, tempest, forceful wind, fire or accident, war or threat of war declared or undeclared, sabotage, civil disturbance, labor strikes, requisition, sickness, quarantine, government intervention, weather conditions, and unforeseen circumstances.

SPECIFIC TERMS & CONDITIONS
Threads of Life offers two kinds of workshop: those taught by our in-house team of dyers and researchers, and those taught by outside teachers. There are therefore two variations of the participant cancellation clause, based on the workshop is led by a Threads of Life in-house teacher or an overseas teacher.

TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR A WORKSHOP TAUGHT BY AN IN-HOUSE TEACHER

PARTICIPANT CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS FOR A WORKSHOP TAUGHT BY AN IN-HOUSE TEACHER
Cancellation requests must be made by email to tours@threadsoflife.com. The date of cancellation is the date on which the written cancellation is received in Bali. No refund will be made for failure to attend or if you voluntarily leave the workshop for any reason after it has begun. No refunds will be given for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals or services not used during the workshop. Cancellation may be made at any time and refunds will be reversed directly to your credit card with the following conditions:

If there are still more than 121 days until the workshop, a 90% refund will be made for cancellation.
From 120 days before the workshop up to 61 days before the workshop, a 50% refund will be made.
Within 60 days of the workshop, no refund will be made.

GROUP SIZE, AIRFARES, AND WORKSHOP CONFIRMATION FOR A WORKSHOP TAUGHT BY AN IN-HOUSE TEACHER
Maximum and minimum group size are as stated the “Workshop” tab of the event’s webpage. If participation fails to meet the minimum group size the workshop will continue, but the workshop contents may be modified. You will be notified of any such changes by email.

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION BY ORGANIZERS
If the workshop is cancelled by the organizers, there will be a 100% refund of participants’ workshop payments within 28 days of the cancellation; however, we cannot be responsible for refunds of participants’ airfares or non-residential accommodation costs.

TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR A WORKSHOP TAUGHT BY AN OUTSIDE TEACHER

PARTICIPANT CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS FOR A WORKSHOP TAUGHT BY AN OUTSIDE TEACHER

An outside teacher’s travel and organizational costs for a workshop are significant and in order to maintain a small group that offers personalized teaching we have a strict cancellation policy. Payment is therefore non-refundable except under the following conditions:

If a cancelled participant’s place is resold and the workshop achieves its maximum group capacity (see Group Size, Airfares, and Workshop Confirmation), a full refund will be made;
If a cancelling participant finds a new participant to replace them, their payment may be transferred to the new participant;
All refunds will be processed within 28 days of the start of the workshop. Refunds will be reversed directly to your credit card.

Maximum and minimum group size are as stated the “Workshop” tab of the event’s webpage. If participation fails to meet the minimum group size by 90 days before the workshop start date the workshop may have to be cancelled. We therefore recommend participants wait to buy their tickets to Bali, and if they are non-residential participants to pay for their accommodations, until we confirm by email that the minimum participation has been achieved.

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION BY ORGANIZERS
If the workshop is cancelled by the organizers, there will be a 100% refund of participants’ workshop payments within 28 days of the cancellation; however, we cannot be responsible for refunds of participants’ airfares or non-residential accommodation costs.

2. ARTIST RESIDENCY TERMS AND CONDITIONS

STUDIO USE
Access to the natural dye studio is from 9:30 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5:30 pm during weekdays; lunch is served from 1 to 2 pm and is included in the price. There is plenty of space but resident artists are granted space on the condition that their work does not get in the way of scheduled production. Resident artists will observe the following studio practices: (1) The studio segregates its work areas by dye type to avoid marking the work of one colour with spots of dye from another; work that has been dyed one colour is not over-dyed in a production vat of another colour; (2) Vats are prepared specifically for over-dyeing; (3) Dyes, mordants, reducing agents, and soaps that are not part of the standard practices of the studio are only used if agreed to at a meeting of the studio managers and senior dyers; (4) The studio is left tidy at the end of each work day.

DYES
The standard production colours of the studio that are available to resident artists are indigo in organic vats, reddish-brown from Ceriops tagal, yellow from jackwood, and black from mud dye.

INCLUDED MATERIALS
Dye materials are included in the price of the artist residency up to a limit determined in relation to the amount of cloth or yarn that may be dyed. The price of the residency includes the dyeing of an average of 1.1 square meter of cloth (or the equivalent weight in yarn) per day: so for a five day residency an artist can dye five square meters of cloth. Resident artists may bring their own fabric or yarn, or use the 1 meter of cotton cloth that is 1.1 meters wide which is included in the price for each day of the residency. Some handspun, handwoven cottons of various widths, and some silks, are also available for purchase and use.

MORNING AND AFTERNOON TRANSFERS (optional)
For artists who chose not to take the accommodations, there will be an extra charge of IDR 70,000 per transfer for transport from the Threads of Life gallery at Jalan Kajeng 24, Ubud, in the morning and back to the Threads of Life gallery in the afternoon. In the morning, the driver will meet artists in front of the Threads of Life gallery at 9:00 am. Transfers will invoiced at the end of the residency based on the number of transfers taken.

PRICES
Studio use, for alumni of a multi-day workshop: USD 70 per person per day, including lunch.
Studio introduction, for those who have not completed a multi-day workshop: USD 130 per day per person for 2 days, including lunches.
Accommodations: USD 60 per room per night, including breakfast. This room will accommodate two people in twin beds or a king size bed.

HOW TO BOOK AND PAY
Inquiries about availability may be made to tour@threadsoflife.com. Once dates are agreed, an invoice will be sent that can be paid by bank transfer or with a credit card via PayPal. Booking of the residency is secured by making full payment.

3. BATIK CLASS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

PRICES
All prices are in Indonesian Rupiah.

BOOKING ONLINE WITH PAYMENT BY CREDIT CARD
Payment may be made by credit card via a secure automatic link from the booking website to the credit card processing site of Maybank Indonesia.

BOOKING ONLINE WITH PAYMENT BY PAYPAL
Payment may be made via PayPal by credit card or debit card without a PayPal account, or from you PayPal account balance. Payment via PayPal will be charged in United States dollars as PayPal does not process payments in Indonesian Rupiah. The Indonesian rupiah value of the class will be automatically converted to United States dollar at the prevailing rate when the payment is processed.

BOOKING IN PERSON WITH PAYMENT AT THE THREADS OF LIFE GALLERY
This class may also be booked in person with the staff at the Threads of Life gallery, Jalan Kajeng 24, Ubud. Payment through the gallery may be made by cash or credit card.

CONFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION
An email receipt for online payment or a retail receipt for payment at the Threads of Life gallery constitute confirmation of a class booking for a specific date and time.

CHANGING YOUR DATE OF PARTICIPATION
A confirmed class booking may be moved to a different date by making a request via email to classes@threadsoflife.com at least 36 hours before that start of the class.

CANCELLATION
Participation may be cancelled by sending an email to classes@threadsoflife.com at least 36 hours before that start of the class.
A refund of class payments less a cancellation fee of IDR 100,000 per person can be collected in cash at the Threads of Life gallery at Jalan Kajeng 24, Ubud, between 10 am and 7 pm on the day of the class or thereafter.
If you are unable to visit the gallery, you may request that the refund be made via PayPal to a PayPal account. Paypal refunds will be made within 5 working days of the class that was cancelled.
(Unfortunately, due to Indonesian banking practices, online credit card payments cannot be reversed.)
No refunds will be made for failure to complete or attend a class.
If a class is cancelled by Threads of Life, a full refund will be made.

AGE LIMITATION
This class is only suitable for those over 12 years of age.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Participants partake in this class at their own risk, knowing that they are working with dyes and hot wax that may cause personal injuries or damage to personal property if used other than instructed by class teachers. Threads of Life may not be held liable for any personal injuries or damage to personal property caused by the dyes and hot wax used during the class.
