The weavers of Amanuban have a wide range of textiles with various techniques including: ikat, supplementary warp wrap called buna and supplementary warp patterning called sotis. There are a few remote areas that still weave kelim patterns locally called naisa. This cloth is unique in that it combines ikat and buna.

The ikat patterning on this exquisite mud dyed cloth is called kai mnutu is a hooked pattern related to interconnectedness: people to people, people to land, people to animal and plant life and people to the ancestor or Divine. The buna or warp wrap supplementary patterning in the centre of the cloth adds to the uniqueness of this textile.

Warp ikat, warp wrap supplementary patterning, single panel, open fringe, commercial cotton, natural dyes. Made by Loni Talau in Amanuban, Timor. 2019
