Tating is a traditional tubular skirt with embellishments of bells, beads and shells worn by the Dayak Desa women of West Kalimantan for special ceremonies. Dayak textiles have always been highly regarded for their unique designs, many of which are woven from dreams.

The central motif on this textile is called lekuk and refers to a coiled python. Throughout traditional communities python skin often inspires traditional designs seeking to imbue power into a cloth. The lekuk speaks of the ability to coil itself as a means of protection from outside danger.
