The weavers of Amanuban have a wide range of textiles with various techniques including: ikat, supplementary warp wrap called buna and supplementary warp patterning called sotis. There are a few remote areas that still weave kelim patterns locally called naisa.

The ikat patterning on this exquisite mud dyed cloth is called ma’kaif or hooked pattern. It relates to interconnectedness: people to people, people to nature and people to the ancestor or Divine.

Warp ikat, two panels stitched together, twisted fringe, commercial cotton, natural dyes.
Made by Rosalia in Amanuban, Timor. 2019.
