Mau NaekHip Cloth
The teme or eagle motif (Haliaeetus luecogaster) with its long range eyesight and ability to descend rapidly from the air to the ground to capture its prey demonstrates superb prowess. This power is transmitted to the textile. The teme is considered to be a kanaf or totem/ kin to the weaver and her clan in Timor and who therefore could never hunt such a creature.
Warp ikat, three panels sewn together, twinned fringe, commercial cotton, natural dyes.
