Mau Ana

Woman’s Shoulder Cloth

IDR 1,594,203

Item Code: T03.TM.TF.012

The shoulder cloth became used throughout the Indonesian Archipelago when the woman’s blouse called a kebaya became nationalized. Prior to this a shoulder cloth was not part of traditional dress.

This area of Timor is known for its rich indigo blue dyes. The motif is called ma’kaif bia suna ana which refers to a small hooked pattern. These hook and lozenges patterns relate to many of the motifs that were found on old bronze drums that were traded into the eastern islands from the Dongson period around the 1st century.
