the islands of Roti and Savu during the Dutch period. The remaining members resettled on the island off Kupang called Semau. This limut cloth is worn by women of Helong as part of their traditional dress.

The motif nian klehen or coconut leaf refers to the importance of the coconut trees to the people of Helong as it is used not only for food but building material as well.

The other bird motif called ke ulan is a bird of prey seen before the rainy season begins – its song signifies a change in the season.
