The bird in flight represents the nuri or lorikeet (Trichoglossus haemotodus) on this Sumbanese woman’s skirt. Like the lorikeet that stays within its flock it is a reminder that humans should also work together as a group to bring about great well-being for the whole community.
This can refer both to important decisions arising from the consensus decision making, to working together to complete tasks such as harvesting groups.
