The ikat motif on this skirt is called kebeba Raijua and refers to a butterfly from the small island of Raijua. It represents the strong connection that Savu has with Raijua as the Savunese believe their ancestors originated from Rai Jua.

At the harvest ceremony Hole on Savu, the clans send offerings from the beach across the sea to Raijua in memory of their origins.

Warp ikat, two panels stitched together and sewn as a tube, handspun cotton, natural dyes.
