Cushion CoverTraditional Textiles
This cushion is made up of the traditional cloth woven on Sulawesi using natural dyes and traditional ikat motifs. The black and white patterns are very colourfast as they have been properly dyed with tannins and iron rich muds and washed repeatedly in a fast flowwing river.
The motif on this cushion is called tosso’ balekoan, which represents a niddy noddy used for making skeins of yarn after being spun from cotton fibers into thread. From here the skeins can be wound into a ball of yarn ready to be used to warp a loom. These handmade natural dyed cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed.
Woven in Batuisi, Sulawesi, 2020.
