Heritage DesignsSumba Cushion Covers
This cushion is made up of the traditional cloth woven in Pau on the island of Sumba using natural dyes with traditional ikat motifs and supplementary patterning technique. The solid coloured backing is made by the weavers from Hamba Parengu in East Sumba using the brilliant indigo dye process of which they are famous.
These supplementary motifs habak represents the commoners’ obligation to protect the central king. When linked together constellation-wise to form the motif, the importance of family ties is also implied.
These handmade natural dyed cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed.
