This cushion is from a woman’s sarong made by the weavers of Ndona in central Flores. the solid color indigo backing is made by the weavers from Hamba Perangu in East Sumba using the brilliant indigo dye process of which they are famous.
The motif on this cushions is called matarote rego refers to the stairs to heaven and is a reference to the tall liana (Entada phaseoloides) as a way for the gods to move between heaven and earth.
These handmade natural dyed cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed.
