Threads of Life has sold Samajiva’s ceramics since its opening in 2001. We feel Samajiva’s work is based on the same principles as Threads of Life products in that they are hand built. inspired by a spiritual practice and a deep connection to nature.
Samajiva’s work is inspired by the types of ceramics used traditionally for Japanese Tea Ceremonies. Using clay and porcelain she pinches the bowls into shapes that instill the user with feelings of calm and attention. Magic Happens in relationship; one of these glazes is a simple traditional Japanese deep dark brown called Tenmoku.
The other, a plain white named Agung White. When they meet they create something more than the sum of brown and white, more than the sum of their parts. They become something unpredictable, surprisingly magical and beautiful.
