Woman's Ceremonial Sarong

Tais luik moi is a woman’s ceremonial sarong. This tais is woven using the several techniques; warp wrap patterning and the floating wrap patterning. The former being the most difficult and done without a drawing. The motif is called lan mesi and refers to the interconnecting ancestors – a path that if you follow will be guided and protected by the ancestor.

Warp wrap patterning, floating wrap patterning, three panels stitched together and sewn as a tube, commercial cotton, natural dyes. Dyed and woven in Amanuban, Timor, 2019.
