Woman’s Shoulder Cloth
This shoulder cloth uses the traditional motifs that are found on the red, blue, black sekomandi textiles. The black and white is achieved by using tannins from Homolanthus sp. and mud which is said to predates the use of reds and blues among this ethnic group; the To Mangki Karataun.
The primary motif is called ulu karua which refers to the eight traditional leaders each having specific roles in the community such as performing necessary rituals, land administration, agricultural cycles and social relationships.
