Timor has a wide range of textiles with various techniques including ikat, supplementary warp patterning and supplementary warp wrap called buna which this textile is a fine example of. The supplementary warp wrap hooked pattern motif is called ma’kaif which refers to the importance of interconnection in all things. This time-consuming art form of wrapping each warp thread to create a pattern can take up to 4 months to do a cloth such as this.
