Basketry & Woodwork

Where we work with weavers, we also seek basket makers and woodcarvers to multiply our livelihoods impact and cultural support. Historically, a woman mastered making textiles and handmade baskets to become marriageable, while woodcarving was men’s work. With their symbolic importance, hand woven baskets and woodcarvings embody a culture’s worldview in the same way as its textiles.
